Microneedling is the treatment I recommend most often, and it's also the one I turn people away from most often. Both for the same reason.
It works by making thousands of tiny channels in the skin so your body answers with new collagen. That response is real, it's gradual, and it costs you a weekend of looking flushed rather than a week of looking like you had something done.
What it is not is a stronger treatment in disguise. If I can run a fingertip across your skin and feel a dent, four sessions of this will improve it a little and leave you wondering why you spent the money. That's a resurfacing problem and I'll tell you so at your assessment.
I'd rather send you down the hall to the laser than take your money four times for the wrong treatment.

What microneedling treats

Uneven texture — Skin that feels rough or looks grainy in photographs. This is what microneedling does best.

Enlarged-looking pores — Especially across the nose, inner cheeks, and chin. Pores don't shrink, but the collagen around them firms up and they read smaller.

Early fine lines — The ones that are starting to show at rest but haven't etched in. Collagen induction works best before a line becomes permanent.

Overall skin quality — Firmness, light reflection, and the general look of healthy skin. Clients describe it as looking rested rather than looking treated.

What microneedling does not treat

Indented or textured scarring. If you can feel a dent or a ridge with a fingertip, collagen induction will improve it a little and stop well short of what you want. That needs ablative resurfacing. → Laser skin resurfacing

4 (four) microneedling sessions and 1 (one) Aerolase NEO treatment, sequenced on purpose.
Most packages are the same treatment four times with a discount on the end. This one isn't. It's built around the order the skin actually needs things done in.
Sessions one and two — structure. Pure microneedling. We're building collagen: texture, firmness, the quality of the skin itself. Nothing else is layered on top, because there's no point treating colour on skin that's still changing underneath.
Session three — colour. 4 passes of the Aerolase NEO across the face, with the settings set to whatever your skin needs — redness, rosacea, melasma, uneven tone — followed by another microneedling session. The NEO is the right tool for colour the way the pen is the right tool for texture, and by session three there's new tissue for it to work with.
Session four — finish. Microneedling, to consolidate what the first three built.

I built this package because of what I kept seeing in the chair. Clients over 40 almost never walk in with one thing to fix. It's texture and some redness. Firmness and a patch of pigment that's been there since a pregnancy. Treating one and ignoring the other gets you a client who's happier but not satisfied.
So the NEO is in the package rather than sold to you later. It's the most adaptable laser we own — the same device handles redness, rosacea and pigment depending on how I set it — which means one session covers whatever your skin turns out to need, rather than a different appointment for each concern.
Structure first, then colour. That order is the whole reason this works.

How it works
How microneedling works
A medical microneedling pen creates controlled micro-channels in the skin at a depth I set for your skin and the area being treated. The channels themselves close within hours. What matters is the repair response underneath them — your body reads the micro-injury as damage and answers with new collagen and elastin.
That response is not immediate. Collagen remodels over three to six months, which is why the result from a series keeps improving after your last session rather than peaking on the day.
Depth is the variable that matters most, and it's not the same across a face. The skin on your forehead, your cheek, and under your eye are three different thicknesses, and running one setting across all of them is how people end up with either no result or a bad one.
What's included in every session
What happens at the end of every session
The process of microneedling itself is half the treatment. What we do in the twenty minutes afterward is the half most places skip.
Exosome serum. It's the serum the pen glides through, applied across the treatment area and worked in as we go rather than wiped on at the end. It's included in every session and every area we treat, not offered as an upgrade once you're in the chair.
A collagen mask under the LED dome, ten minutes. Red light after microneedling calms the inflammatory response and supports the repair you've just triggered. It's also the most pleasant ten minutes of the appointment.
Mineral sunscreen to take home. Not a sample — the actual product, because for the next 24 hours it's the only thing allowed on your skin, and I'd rather hand it to you than hope you own one.
Skin tone
Microneedling and deeper skin tones
This is one of the genuine advantages of microneedling and most pages don't mention it.
Ablative laser resurfacing removes a layer of skin, and that injury can trigger the pigment-producing cells to overproduce while the skin heals — which shows up as darkening afterward. The risk climbs with deeper skin tones, which is why we screen carefully before any ablative treatment and why some clients need a physician consult first.
Microneedling doesn't remove the surface. The risk of post-treatment darkening is meaningfully lower, which makes it the collagen treatment I can offer most clients without a long preparation protocol.
That doesn't mean no risk. We still assess your skin, we still prepare it where it's warranted, and we still won't treat recently tanned skin. But if you've been told you're not a candidate for laser resurfacing, this is very often the honest answer to what you can have instead.

Your appointment and recovery
Before
Stay out of the sun and off tanning beds for 2 (two) weeks before your appointment. Come with clean skin and no makeup. Stop retinol and exfoliating acids 3 (three) days before.
During
We numb the area first and give it time to take. Most people describe the sensation as a firm vibration with some roughness over bony areas — the forehead and jawline are the ones people notice. A face treatment takes about an hour including numbing.
After
You'll leave flushed, like a strong sunburn. That settles over 24 to 48 hours. Some people flake lightly on day three.
For the first 24 hours, the only thing that touches your face is the mineral sunscreen we send you home with. Nothing else — no makeup, no serum, no moisturizer, no cleanser, no water. NO shower, NO gym, NO sauna, NO swimming. Sleep on a clean pillowcase.
After 24 hours you can shower, and you can go back to a gentle moisturizer and your sunscreen. Keep actives — retinol, acids, vitamin C — off for a few more days.
SPF every day from then on, without exception. You've just asked your skin to rebuild and sun exposure undoes it.
Timeline
Day 1–2: redness. Day 3–5: possible light flaking, then a glow. Week 2–4: texture starts to look different. Month 3–6: the collagen result, which is the one you're actually paying for.
Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
How many microneedling sessions will I need?
Typically 4, spaced four to six weeks apart. Some concerns need more. We'll set the number at your assessment rather than sell you a package you may not need.
Is microneedling safe for deeper skin tones?
Yes, and it carries a lower risk of post-treatment darkening than ablative laser resurfacing does. We still assess your skin first and we won't treat recently tanned skin.
Can I buy the series for my hands or lips?
The series is face and neck. Hands and lips are available as single sessions.
What should I avoid after my treatment?
Sun, sweat, water and all skincare for the first 24 hours. Actives like retinol and acids stay off for a few days after that. SPF daily from then on.
When will I see results?
A glow within a week of the first session — that's swelling and hydration, and it fades. The real change is collagen, and that builds from week four through month six.
Will microneedling fix my acne scars?
It depends what kind. If the scarring is shallow, it helps. If you can feel an indentation with a fingertip, you need laser resurfacing — needling will improve it slightly and leave you short of what you wanted.
Can I wear makeup afterward?
Not for 24 hours. For that first day the only thing on your face is the mineral sunscreen we give you — no makeup, no skincare, not even water.
